December is here and it is only a few days away from Christmas. Obviously, it is foggy in the morning and cold. A time when people dislike to get out of bed until the sun is out and gets warmer. The cold air from the surface of the Bhramaputra river makes the morning foggier but for those who decide to take a walk in the fog, it's an awesome experience. At times I do taking a walk along the river bank or get up on the terrace and enjoy the view around.... the unseen river covered by the fog, the small valley beneath where the houses and trees are only shapes and lines, the outlines of the birds singing and hoping from a tree to another and finally deciding to come and sit on a pole on the terrace.... all like a painting in progress..... the brush of an

artist initiating a painting which gradually takes shape as the fog thins out. Some 3 days ago, it so happened that me and Mom had to go to Meghdoot Bhavan, the Head Post Office of Guwahati to get some documents Speed Posted. Foggy and cold when we got out of our house but by the time we reached there, the sun had come out. I got down and walked towards the post office gate alone while mom did not. It is a normal routine for us... me getting inside the post office to get the docs posted while mom stays behind on the footpath facing Meghdood Bhavan on the other side of the road. She takes great pleasure in having a look at the stalls there selling saplings and flower plants ready to be transplanted right into one's garden

Your garden is sure to be colorful and showy within the net few days. Without giving a glance on my left, I rushed inside coz my mind was set on getting the docs sent as soon as possible before the ques at the counters get long. Finally having sent my docs I walked out feeling triumphant as I got my work done in just 20 mins. I stopped short as I walked out of the door and stood still at the top of the stairs for what met my eyes was an array of flowering plants on sale. From that point I could see only a small portion of the stalls on the opposite side of the road so decided to have a closer look on the make shift stalls which have become permanent there. Coming down the stairs and walking out of the gate, I feasted my eyes on the other side of the road. Roses roses everywhere...red, pink, white, yellow, orange, lavender and a lot more colors of roses. Marigolds galore - pale yellow, yellow, orange and maroon. Dahlias, Zinnias, Petunias, Chrysanthemums, Anthuriums, budding Tiger Lilies, Petunias and Gladiolus lilies. Sylvias and phlox. Saplings of seasonal flowers and flowering plants aplenty were on sale. The sight was awesome and I regretted not having carried
my camera along with me that day. Deciding to come back again the next day and take some pictures, we went back home.. Mom happily carrying her saplings of Petunias for our terrace garden. Now they are growing well. Should be flowering within the next few days.
The next day at around 10.30 am I landed there along with Puniya and started clicking right away from the corner of the lane where the stalls begin and kept clicking till where the last stall is. Our spirits brightened as we walked along the flowery footpath. The colors of the flowers charming the hearts of all those around. Here are some of those pictures which I clicked and I am sure your hearts too would be charmed.

All these plants come from different nurseries of Guwahati and nearby villages of Assam and are for sale at this strategic location. The footpath adjacent to the Nehru Park wall opposite to Meghdood Bhavan beginning in front of the Deputy Commissioner's Court and ending midway towards the Cotton College. A place where people frequent and stop by to take home these plants to adorn the their own gardens. It's December, cold and dull yet the colors of the flowers in bloom here lifts one's spirit and make life beautiful. I hope you enjoyed looking at these photographs. I sure did enjoy spending my time there. If you happen to come to Guwahati and passby this side, take a few moments to feast your eyes on the flowers on sale here. Indeed, colors make the world that beautiful place to be.
